The M9 service pistol is better known as a paperweight for somebody who never leaves their office. I will try to find something good to say about it. Let’s see, it has a nice emblem on the side! The M9 is heavier than a cinder block. The trigger pull takes 2 power lifters in single action and 3 in double action. The slide grinds more than Karl form Sling Blade sharpening his lawn mower blade.
What Should We Do?
The first thing we should do is give one to each person who ever had to carry it or use it in combat and let them destroy it. Then we take a pick. Of course, my son is going to say Springfield because he is caught in that time where he hates everything I like. The Springfield is good and would be my second choice. My first choice, however, is the Glock! There is a reason that law enforcement, security, and elite military units have Glocks: dependability and reliability! It doesn’t matter if it is a Glock 21, 19, 34, 40, 35, or 17; the same quality is always there. The same accuracy is there shot after shot, and you can actually carry this pistol without needing a leg iron to do so. The Glock is far more reliable and the trigger pull double or single action is way better than with the M9. I will also say this: go to any civilian firearms dealer and you’ll see that the paperweight sledge hammer trigger is over $800 while the Glock 21 45 ACP is $444. It is okay if the military saves money. Why are we still stuck with weapons that come from the hands of the lowest bidder or whoever lost a bet over the Redskins vs. Cowboys?
How Do We Affect Change?
We ask (not complain) over and over again until we are heard. If you are in the military, when you get that chance with that sergeant major or brigade commander, especially if you are combat arms, make suggestions, not complaints or threats and state facts, not presumptions. Be prepared to give honest educated, answers that support and contain first-hand knowledge and experience about your military weapons. And I don’t mean get all of your information from Google. (But if you are cyber security, just keep the M9; you’re never leaving the tent.) It is time we had some changes in our weapons and some more training so that soldiers will shoot accurately and be able to handle their weapons.
