Throughout history there have been several elite Army units that we have counted on in a moment’s notice to serve and protect our country, to lead us in battle and win any war. I have had the distinct honor of serving with several of them, and I will now list the best of the best.
Let’s Climb to Glory
The famed U.S. Army 10th Mountain Group. These are some of the best, if not the best, soldiers, leaders, and officers in our military and worldwide. These are heavily trained, deploy-able men and women of the military. It was a great honor serving my time at Ft. Drum with the 10th Mountain. The mystique of the area sent chills down my spine before I ever arrived. The job your infantry teams did throughout Iraq and Afghanistan was unsurpassed, and I saw firsthand the devastation you bring to the enemy in a moment’s notice. You are truly the best.
Airborne hooah! Yes, you are truly all Americans—each and every one of you that wear the tab and patch of the 82nd Airborne. Throughout history you have led the way for America in battle. You are the tradition of what the military and especially the U.S. Army stands for; your beret shining in the sun has always been there to answer the call to duty. You will always be ready to don your chutes and follow me. You are the infantry! You are America’s finest. I had the distinct honor of serving with you in Iraq, and even though I say it was an honor, I know it was more than that. The job your soldiers did facing enemy attacks constantly in Sadr City and Ramadi, they’re fearless and dedicated to their country and their soldiers. You are the true combat professionals.
The Elite Army Units First Team
The First Cav is one of the most distinct units in the military as it is filled with a heritage and tradition that makes up the U.S. Army’s finest. Your lineage goes back centuries. I had the honor of serving with you in Iraq; your scouts climbed out of their “strykers” in 2008 and defeated the enemy in close combat. It was a pleasure to defeat them right along with you. Keep your Stetsons on and sabers shining in the sun. You are Cav and will always be one of the first in battle.
The 101 patch on your shoulder means pick your ropes and follow me! The 101st infantry speaks for itself so far back I can’t even count. I was proud to serve in the 101st infantry division and “rendezvous with destiny” in Iraq. You went through Iraq with an iron fist and bought the house down as you have in many wars. The combat professionals, support teams, and entire brigade were always ready to take the fight to the enemy and win. We will always count on you to lead us in battle to see that eagle on your shoulder while winning the war. You have spent hundreds of years in battle and America will always count on you to keep us free.
The truth is these elite army units are some of the best, if not the best, units in the armed forces. They’re each filled with tradition and heritage that has led the way to our freedom for many years. The men and women of these elite Army units serve with pride, honor, courage, and commitment each and every day. We will look up to them and count on them to protect us at home and away. Thank you all!
Many units in the Army are so distinct and honored to serve that each plays a role in our freedom and success as a country and military. I will take nothing from any of them because no matter what branch or unit, we all serve the same way and for the same reason—to protect freedom and the American way of life!
